This grenade in Counter-Strike is frequently mistaken for a fragmentation grenade. However, the HE grenade in CS is actually the "MK3A2 Concussion Offensive Grenade." This is commonly referred to as a concussion grenade. It is intended to give soldiers operating in close quarters with the enemy in built up areas the ability to cause casualties, while minimizing danger to friendly personnel. Concussion grenades are also used for demolition and to cause concussion casualties to enemies in enclosed areas. The concussion grenade is basically a container full of TNT. When the fuze explodes the grenade, it creates a wave of high pressure shockwaves. This shock wave is greater than what is produced by a fragmentation grenade, and thus is very useful against enemy personnel operating within bunkers and other enclosed fortifications. The grenade's effect varies depending on the enclosure that the grenade is detonated in. In a small enclosure, personnel may be killed from the overpressure. In a average sized room, the most likely effect is that personnel will be stunned for a while, allowing friendly forces to safely enter and secure the room/bunker.
